My journal tends to be a grab-bag. I think I'm one of these supporting characters; I write more deeply in other people's journals than my own. A lot of it is friends-locked. This has more to do with not subjecting everyone I know to discussions of, say, my sexual or personal politics or whinging about fibromyalgia than with trying to keep things private. If it's really private, it's probably not in my journal, anyway. Lately I've been adding photos to some of my posts.
Re friends: You are quite welcome to read my journal. But I tend not to add people I don't know unless they start commenting on my posts and I get to feeling like I know them. I spend just way too much time on LJ as it is!
About me:
I am a science-fiction editor at the moment, with my own business. At other times, I have been a tech writer, editor, and pimp recruiter for Microsoft and other hi-tech companies, a doctoral student in biopsychology, an author, a managing editor, an editorial manager, an illustrator, a beach naturalist, a subject-matter expert in animal behavior and physiology, a death counselor, and an actor, writer, and director. My brain seems to be split down the middle (so to speak) between arts and science; I'm just as happy in either camp and don't believe they are substantially different from one another. I don't think they are substantially different from spirituality, either. It all connects somewhere. I have a lot of Opinions about politics but hardly ever talk about them on LJ. I dance whenever I can.
I was born in a great big city but wasn't meant to be a city chick, and I wander around a lot looking at bits of nature and pointing them out to people. I can be enthralled by a leaf. (It's nice to be easily amused.)
I collect clutter, dust, and ideas. I'm working on cutting down the clutter and the dust so that there will be more room for ideas. I sing well and play many instruments badly, a few tolerably, and one or two a bit better than that. I have a certain talent for catalyzing change in others--not always the coziest of attributes. I'm a bit of a kitchen witch.
I stay up way too late.
I am married to ![[info]](http://p-stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif) ihgreenman and have too many pets and talk about them perhaps too much because I find animals fascinating. I also have too many books, but they are easier to manage than the pets.
Photography
I am addicted to photography, having gotten my first digital camera in May 2004 and a slightly more grown-up camera in November 2005, and want to learn more about techniques and tools and get really gooood at it. I was excited to make my first photo sale in October 2005, to the Portland Home and Garden Show. Since then I've had a few photos used as CD covers or appear in magazines, but I still need to start doing shows, get an agent, and get serious.

The Great Relocation Search
What's with all the weather stickers, those are places I'm thinking about moving to (or have some other personal interest in, like having relatives there or something like that). I love Seattle but the rain and lack of sun is driving me out of what's left of my mind, so I'm shopping for someplace warmer and sunnier. I haven't found a good solution, though. If you have any suggestions, here are qualities I'm looking for in a new place:
* usually above 40 degrees during the day in the winter
*low to moderate humidity
*sunny at least about 2/3 of the time
*able to buy a 3-bedroom house for no more than 350K, or rent a 2-bedroom house for under $1300/month
*"green" outlook
*lakes, rivers, ponds, or coastline
*availability of holistic, organic services and products--eg, naturopathic medicine, organic food, herbs (the legal kind)
*mass transit system
*Culture friendly to tech geeks, arts geeks, liberal poly-pagan leftover hippies
*Not terrible air quality, as one of us has asthma and we both have allergies. Breathing is sort of an issue.
*Restaurants with a variety of ethnic foods
*Arts: Dance, yoga, and martial arts classes; places to swim; a venue for independent films; independent theatre, art galleries, museums
*low to moderate elevation (ie, less than about 2,500 ft)
*Not directly in the path of every hurricane that comes along
*availabilty of tech jobs. Bonus if there is also a major publishing company in the area.
Am I just dreaming? I guess I'm looking for Seattle without the lack of sun, the constant chilly damp, and the absurdly spiraling cost of living.
We've been looking at San Diego, Sacramento, Las Vegas, and Austin, but we're not very happy with any of these choices. Lately we've been researching Israel, particularly Tel Aviv. My jury's still out on whether that's a good idea.
